Chair - Appointed April, 2014

Colin Tomassi is a career Civil Servant with extensive experience in administration, service delivery, project management, inspection, and performance management. A lifelong resident of North Edinburgh with deep roots in the community, he previously served as volunteer vice chair of a local youth football club for a decade.

Colin has personal experience of dementia within his family; his father lived with vascular dementia, and his mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

Colin has been consistently impressed by the quality of care provided by the team at Seagrove. He is passionate about supporting the Board to help the organisation grow and evolve.

Board Member

Rita Crombie is a lifelong Edinburgh resident with a background in education, having spent much of her career teaching in Primary 1–3 before working across all primary stages, including as a key contact for an autistic unit.

Her teaching expertise has proved surprisingly adaptable in her volunteer and board roles at Seagrove, where she brings warmth, empathy, and deep understanding.

Rita first visited Seagrove with a friend and was deeply moved by the quality of care. She is also active in the local community through her involvement with the Leith Festival and is a regular supporter of the Brunton Theatre.

Miles Tubb has worked with older people in Edinburgh for over 25 years. He has extensive experience of working with groups and individuals who are on their dementia journey. He enjoys using reminiscence as a way of engaging people and loves to hear stories of people’s lives and experiences. He now enjoys transforming these memories into podcast episodes for The Seagrove Centre. 

Treasurer

Nigel Hicks is a qualified accountant with a wealth of experience in senior financial roles across multiple industries. He has held key positions at the City of Edinburgh Housing Department and Manor Estates Housing Association, and since 2005, he has served as Finance Director at Dunedin Canmore Housing Association.

Nigel brings extensive expertise in budgeting, financial reporting, and management, which he has gained through his work in the housing, publishing, brewing, and construction sectors.

Nigel also shares his knowledge through teaching, lecturing on housing finance at Heriot-Watt University, and delivering training courses for the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations (SFHA).

Acting Secretary - Appointed - March, 2015

Anne Chalmers brings a wealth of knowledge from her academic career, having worked as a lecturer and tutor in Marketing at Edinburgh Napier University since 2001.

Anne is also active in the voluntary sector, fostering dogs for Guide Dogs Scotland and supporting the Parkinson’s UK Edinburgh Branch.

Her connection to the organisation is deeply personal; her late husband, Campbell, was a regular visitor to Seagrove. The care and support they both received brought hope and strength during a difficult time. Anne feels privileged to contribute to safeguarding and developing the service, ensuring that others benefit from the same compassionate support.

Board Member

John Selcraig was born and raised in Edinburgh. He began his career with a plumbing apprenticeship before becoming self-employed in 1988. He continues to successfully run his own company, bringing decades of experience and business insight.

John's connection to dementia comes through his father, who was diagnosed with vascular dementia. During the three years following the diagnosis, John cherished the deeper conversations and new understanding between them. His lived experience of dementia and his professional knowledge make him a valuable addition to the Board, which he joined in 2023. John is proud to support Seagrove’s vital work in the community.

Board Member

Alistair Cummings first connected with Seagrove through his role with SEAG, the centre's transport provider. His involvement has since deepened through both professional and personal ties. Alistair has strong family connections to the Leith area and a longstanding familiarity with Seagrove and its work through past family business links. 

His local knowledge, community commitment, and understanding of the practical aspects of service delivery bring valuable insight to the Board. Alistair is proud to support the continued success and development of the organisation and is passionate about contributing to a service that plays such an important role in Edinburgh's local community.
